Student Leadership Day at Howick College

On Thursday Howick College hosted the first ever Howick Coast Kāhui Ako Student Leadership Day. All schools selected student leaders to attend a high energy leadership workshop run by Darren Pereira from Australia. Darren is a coach and founder of Success Integrated.

It was a wonderful opportunity for student leaders from Years 6 -13 to come together to grow their understanding
of what it means to be a leader in an engaging learning environment.

Here are some quotes from students on the day:

We thoroughly enjoyed the day together with the other schools involved. Some key sticking points we discussed were around us being a TEAM – “Together Everyone Achieves More”.

The day helped us think about how to give others courage and credit. New learning for us was the acronym “WIIFT” – What’s in it for them/me – if we have to do something in the future, we will now consider others and work together more. Thinking about how we can sell our ideas to others where they would benefit from it but ultimately we would too.

I really enjoyed meeting the older students. It was cool to see them being leaders.

I think the best part was doing all the games and challenges with the other kids. I liked meeting new people.
